Unstable Horizon
Unstable Horizon is a photo series begun during my residency program in The Hague in 2009. Noticing the many leaning poles through out the city, I used my camera to “straighten” them. As a result, the horizon became tilted and diagonal. When the photographs are arranged side by side, the horizons form zigzag pattern, making the famously flat Dutch landscape appears strangely hilly. The series reflects on how photographers and cameras actively construct, alter, and reshape our sense of reality.
