The Knowing Eye
Ambala’s new series proposes a set of constructed realities through the “reality of images”, building autonomous imageries that depict both elements from our perceived reality and juxtapositions of fictitious objects and settings. The artworks presented here have been digitally montage from the artist’s archives of photographs taken from 2011 to 2018. Most of these images have been idiosyncratically captured by the artist in different places over the years, and here lose their original meanings and contexts to form new fictive imageries and moments. Constructed through visual negations and juxtapositions, the works propose taking an alternative route into the limits and imaginative possibilities of photography as an artistic medium in which realities overlap and are scrutinized.
